  5. Acorn's Education Directory: Now on CD ROM

  7. Acorn Computers has just released a CD-ROM version of its Education
  8. Directory. 
  9.  
  10. The Directory contains details of over 2,000 educational software titles,
  11. from more than 200 companies, which run on Acorn's Archimedes range of
  12. 32-bit RISC computers, as well as a full description of the products with
  13. details of the software houses and the prices of the software.

  15. All of the entries are accessed through an easy to use graphical database
  16. allowing the user to browse through data files, searching for key words or
  17. companies or particular types of software. By keying buttons on the display
  18. the user is transported to linked pages of information which may contain
  19. screen shots, demonstration versions of the software, or further information
  20. on particular packages.

  22. In addition the CD-ROM offers a geographical index to Acorn dealers,
  23. Education Dealers, and Acorn in Education Centres, as well as resources such
  24. as sound samples and sprites that can be extracted for use in other
  25. applications.

  27. Acorn's Education Marketing Manager, Ashley Oliver said that the CD ROM
  28. version of Acorn's Education Directory is likely to be updated on a regular
  29. basis throughout the year. "There will still be a place for the printed
  30. directory" he affirmed, "but as the use of Acorn CD ROM systems is becoming
  31. increasingly widespread in schools I think it likely that demand for the CD
  32. ROM version will grow dramatically.

  34. "The search facilities provided on the CD allow the user to look for
  35. specific packages suitable for defined groups of users. Being able to link
  36. the entries to further information pages offers immediate access to a wealth
  37. of information that it is simply not practicable to include in the printed
  38. version of the directory. " he said.
